Industrial Calf Dressing

Thank you for participating in the California Rodeo's Industrial Calf Dressing event presented by West Coast Community Bank (formerly 1st Capital Bank, a division of Santa Cruz County Bank).

Please read all of this information carefully before submitting the entry form.

• Entries are due by July 1st.
• Payment and liability release forms are due by July 1st. Liability release forms will be emailed to EACH TEAM MEMBER. A payment link will be sent upon receipt of your entry form. We accept checks or credit cards.* (*subject to fees).
• Back numbers must be picked up at the Rodeo Office by 4 pm on Wednesday, July 8th.

EVENT INFO:

ELIGIBILITY • Contestants will come from local companies. • Contestants will be selected by each company to represent that company. • All contestants must complete the Entry/Release form. Contestant verifies that all information is true and accurate on the entry form. If contestant is under 18 a Hold Harmless with a parent signature must be completed prior to competition. Available in the Rodeo Office. • All contestants must wear long-sleeve shirts and blue jeans. Baseball caps and headbands are not allowed during the event. NO steel baseball or football cleats. • Contestants can enter the event only once, for only one team and cannot be a substitute on another team for any reason.

THE TEAM • Each team will consist of three (3) contestants. • A maximum of 9 teams will participate per day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. • 1st – 3rd place teams from Thursday, Friday and Saturday will advance to the Finals on Sunday. • Team members in Sunday performance must be the same contestants who participated in the preliminaries. • Injury substitutions are not allowed. A team may participate in the finals with less than three members. • NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THE ABOVE INFORMATION.

DRESSING PROCEDURES • At least nine calves will be furnished each day. • Each team will have its own judge and will start against the West fence closest to the main grandstand. • Calves will be turned loose on the track and will have 4 to 6-foot lead ropes attached to the halters. • When the starting gun is fired the teams will attempt to catch a calf. NOTE: bulldogging, pulling the tail and any other unnecessary roughness will not be allowed. Knocking down the calf is allowed. • Once a calf is caught by a team, it cannot be taken away by another team. • After the calf is caught, one team member must hold the lead rope and may not hold the halter or touch the calf. This team member is not allowed to assist other team members in dressing the calf. • The two other team members must dress the calf with a pair of blue jeans. Both hind legs must go through the jean pant legs. One Calf leg in each jean leg. The jeans must be pulled all the way up over the tail and the suspenders pulled over the head in front of the ears. • When the calf is standing and properly dressed, the team’s judge will give the OK for one team member to run to the Head Judge and call out the team’s name. • Each team is responsible for removing the blue jeans from the calf and returning them to their judge. Failure to remove the blue jeans from the calf may result in disqualification of that team. • If any team member is intoxicated prior to the event, the entire team will be disqualified. • After the contest has ended, only the three winning teams are to remain in front of the grandstands for presentation of the awards. All other teams are to promptly leave the area. • ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL. Any judge can disqualify any team if the judge sees that any rules are broken.

PRIZES
Daily prizes are described below.
Each team member will receive a prize.
Sunday winners will receive a championship belt buckle, second and third place teams will receive place ribbons.
