SALINAS, CA, July 10, 2013 –The
California Rodeo Salinas revived the Colmo del Rodeo Parade for the centennial
celebration back in 2010 and since then, the residents of Salinas have embraced
the event and come out each year to watch the lighted floats, bands and other
entries as they light up the streets of Old Town Salinas. The Colmo del Rodeo
Parade, presented by Taylor Farms, will roll through the city on Saturday July
13th at 8pm. This parade was once conducted on Saturday night of the
Rodeo and was the largest lighted parade west of the Mississippi. Now it serves
to help kick off Big Week here in Salinas along with the Kiddie Kapers Parade
and Cowboy Poetry events that happen the weekend prior to the California Rodeo
itself.
The Grand
Marshall for the parade will be ‘Coach’ Bob Kelley and the Honorary Grand
Marshall will be radio talent Alex Lucas. Bob Kelley is a local legend who played
professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles, coached football at Hartnell
College, worked for the California Rodeo Salinas and is being inducted into the
Salinas Valley Athletic Hall of Fame this year. Alex Lucas is one of the top
morning radio personalities and can be heard locally on Jose 107.1FM. Broadcast
nationwide, El Show del Genio Lucas is composed of two segments: music and optimistic
talk. This complete program includes everything from jokes to funny and
humorous congratulatory phone calls.
New and
exciting this year will be ‘Jack’ of Jack in the Box riding on their float.
Bring your family out early and reserve your spot along the street as the
parade begins at S. Main Street and Acacia at 8pm and ends at the Steinbeck
Center at 1 Main Street.
