SALINAS, CA, July 15, 2013 –Miss
California Rodeo Salinas Tracy Hinson was out and about in Salinas and on the Peninsula
this weekend talking about the upcoming Big Week events and promoting the
California Rodeo. One of the most unique events Tracy attended was the glean
with Ag Against Hunger. She went out with a group of volunteers to harvest
cauliflower in an Ocean Mist Farms field on Saturday morning; the produce was
then trucked to a cooler and will make it to a food bank soon. Among the
attendees were a few mascots who were there to promote another unique event
that benefits Ag Against Hunger.
The Produce
Mascot Race that will be held on Friday July 19th on the track
during the 2nd performance of the California Rodeo Salinas which
starts at 6:00pm. The race will feature ten mascots from local produce
companies-not all in the shapes of vegetables-racing for bragging rights and a
chance to defend their title the following year. The companies all became
sponsors of the Rodeo and paid an entry fee to participate in the race-that fee
is donated to Ag Against Hunger. Ag Against Hunger's mission is to alleviate
hunger by creating a connection between the agricultural community and food
assistance programs. This is the 3rd year
the race has been held and over $25,000 has been raised for Ag Against Hunger.
Participating
companies are: Bengard Ranches, Chiquita Brands International, Church Brothers,
Dole Fresh Vegetables, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Ocean Mist, Pacific International
Marketing, Tanimura & Antle, Taylor Farms and The Nunes Company. Don’t miss
this entertaining race on Fight Hunger Night, presented by Wells Fargo.
