The four days of the annual California Rodeo Salinas along with the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) event generate $11 million dollars in local economic activity.
The California Rodeo Association contracted with The Institute for Innovation and Economic Development at California State University Monterey Bay College of Business in 2015 to conduct an economic impact study. The final results from the study were recently delivered to the California Rodeo Salinas; the total direct, indirect and induced economic impact of the Rodeo and Professional Bull Riding events is estimated at $11.247 million dollars, representing a significant contribution to the region’s economy.
The CSU Monterey Bay team collected data via surveys during the Rodeo and PBR. Money spent by Rodeo and PBR fans on tickets, meals, lodging and other retail purposes, have the greatest impact on our community. Money spent at the California Rodeo is filtered to local non-profit groups who earn money during Big Week by parking cars, selling food, operating concessions and much more. This strong partnership between the California Rodeo and local charitable and community organizations provide critical opportunities for non-profits to raise money locally and help the California Rodeo ensure that what is “spent here, stays here.”
The California Rodeo Association produces several other annual events such as the Rodeo Kick Off Concert, Monster Jam, Bulls of Summer PBR and Central Coast Motorsports Spectacular that also provide significant contribution to our local economy, but were not included in this economic impact study.
