SALINAS, CA- July 19, 2013-
The opening performance of the 103rd California Rodeo Salinas was full
of excitement. Cowboys, cowgirls and
rodeo fans donned pink to show their support for Wrangler’s Tough Enough to
Wear Pink (TETWP) Campaign and $1 from
each ticket sold last night was donated to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at
Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in Salinas. 8,831 people
attended and watched the Rodeo and track action. Attendance was up .8% from the Thursday performance
in 2012.
The Track was full of highlights
as Grace Tobias from Tres Pinos, California was crowned Miss California Rodeo
Salinas 2013 and rodeo fans were treated to the first performance of Cowboy
Kenny’s Steel Rodeo Tour as they completed high flying aerial stunts on their
motocross dirt bikes in front of the grandstands. Tonight also marked the first time in the
history of the California Rodeo a marriage proposal went live on the Jack in
the Box Instant Replay screen as Marc Martinez proposed to his girlfriend Soraida
Munoz… and she said “YES!” Other highlights
included The One Arm Bandit, the popular freestyle bullfights and finale
fireworks. Professional rodeo cowboys
kept spectators attention in the arena with fierce competition and rodeo
