The annual Colmo del Rodeo Parade produced by the California Rodeo Salinas and presented by Star Market will take the streets of Old Town again on Saturday, July 13th. Ed Montana, a singer song writer with a rich history in Salinas, will serve as the 2019 Grand Marshal. Ed is a fixture here, engrained in our heritage as he sings his cowboy tunes at various events, promoting the sport of rodeo and the western way of life. He even wrote the California Rodeo Salinas’ signature song, “Saddle Up Salinas.” The parade will start at 7:30pm, which is a half hour earlier than past years, at Acacia Street and South Main Street and wind its way to 1 Main Street in Salinas.
Over 40 groups have committed to participate so far, with more expected before the parade entry deadline of June 15th. To date, seven marching bands coming from Fremont, Sacramento, and Salinas are scheduled to appear. Other entries in this year's parade include, the Alisal Community Arts Network Marching Band and their Mariachi Juvenil program, Gilroy Rodeo with a horse-drawn wagon, Salinas High School All-District Marching Band, and the Sacramento Youth Band will all partake in the festivities. Parade chairman Mikel Ann Miller said, “I am so excited to share that the same car, a 1914 REO Touring, that appeared in the 1919 Colmo del Rodeo Parade is returning 100 years later for your enjoyment.” Any organization that would like to participate can fill out an entry form online or print one out on our website and submit: https://www.carodeo.com/events/2019/colmo-del-rodeo-parade-2019
