The California Rodeo Salinas donated over $530,000 to non-profits in 2019. Non-profit groups work at various events held at the Salinas Sports Complex throughout the year completing tasks necessary to produce events. Those donations earned plus discounted facility rentals, ticket donations and tips collected all add up to the grand total of $534,919.38 given back to non-profit groups, up 8% over 2018.
Local groups who worked parking cars, selling food, shuttling patrons and more include Hope Horses & Kids, Monterey Bay Veterans, Inc., various high school athletic departments and clubs, The Ernie Camacho Foundation, Sun Street Centers, Toro Bulls and several other organizations. In addition to local donations, funds are also allocated to rodeo related groups like the Monterey County Sheriff’s Posse Junior Rodeo, Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, California Circuit Finals, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund and Friends of Rodeo; the California Rodeo Salinas’ mission statement includes preserving the traditions of the west and donating to other rodeo-related entities aligns with that. Donations were also made to The American Cancer Society as part of the Rodeo’s Relay for Life participation.
