The Golden Circle of Champions is an initiative conceived by the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo in Santa Maria, CA. It raises funds for families with children fighting cancer with support being provided directly to the families to aid with urgent needs such as paying bills, buying medicine and more. Children are honored annually in Santa Maria before and during their first rodeo performance and now, for the 2nd year, the Golden Circle of Champions program is gaining national attention and heading to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December thanks to Las Vegas Events.
The California Rodeo Salinas is once again one of ten rodeos chosen to participate by sponsoring a child to attend special events and the rodeo in Las Vegas. Ten cancer patients from Las Vegas will also be honored. Twenty families with a child between the ages of 6 and 14 years old who have been diagnosed with a life threatening cancer or associated illness will have the opportunity to meet professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls and to also attend a sold out performance of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. They will receive clothing and gifts from Wrangler, Boot Barn, Resistol, Montana Silversmiths and other sponsors and donors.
Nine year old Julian Castillo and his family will travel from Salinas to Las Vegas to enjoy the festivities. Julian is currently in maintenance treatments for leukemia which he was diagnosed with in 2017. The California Rodeo Salinas will fund the family’s flights and other travel expenses while Las Vegas Events will provide their accommodations and two tickets for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on Sunday, December 8th. Funds will be raised at the Flair on the Farm bar at the Salinas Sports Complex Saturday, November 23rd from 10am to 4pm and Sunday, November 24th from 10am to 3pm.
