The California Rodeo Association is tracking the ever-changing
COVID-19 updates as we continue to plan for events in July. We have created a COVID-19
Response Committee that meets weekly to review information and discuss options
and best practices as it relates to the virus. We are awaiting further directives
from health officials and will continue to follow any guidelines issued to keep
everyone safe, but our hope is that July brings the opportunity for people to gather
and celebrate once again.
Unfortunately, we had
to cancel the Monster Jam that was scheduled on May 31st; the Monster
Jam will take place at the Salinas Sports Complex on May 2, 2021. Other events
that have been impacted so far include the Cowboy Poetry event that was
scheduled for May 9th which has been postponed to an undetermined
date and the Gala that was scheduled for June 20th which has been postponed
until 2021 with hopes that our supporters, businesses and the general public
alike, who have been faced with challenges due to COVID-19, can really enjoy
that event in 2021. The Hall of Fame induction that was scheduled for July 16, 2020
has also been pushed to July 2021 as the committee was unable to meet to review
nominations and select inductees.
The California Rodeo Salinas and Big Week activities are an
integral part of our community, preserving the traditions of the west and
generating economic activity including significant funding for local non-profits,
but the safety and well-being of our fans, volunteers, contestants, sponsors
and everyone involved in the events is of the utmost importance to us. We appreciate
everyone’s understanding as we do our best to navigate this unprecedented
health crisis.
