Massey Ferguson Names California Rodeo Salinas 2024 Sowing Good Deeds Winner

California Rodeo Committee Awarded New Massey Ferguson Tractor
12/05/2024

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA | Dec. 5, 2024 | AGCO Corporation (NYSE: AGCO), a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of agricultural machinery and precision ag technology, celebrates the hard work of rodeo committees across the United States through its Massey Ferguson brand’s annual Sowing Good Deeds™ contest. Matt LeCroy, Director, West Regional Sales for Massey Ferguson North America, presented this year’s award to representatives of California Rodeo Salinas during the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) 2024 Awards Banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada. The California Rodeo Salinas Committee receives a new Massey Ferguson® 4700 Series tractor as part of the award.

“Massey Ferguson is proud to support American agriculture both in the field, with our extensive lineup of tractors and agricultural equipment, and in our ag communities,” said LeCroy. “PRCA rodeo committees provide entertainment, service and significant financial support. They also help preserve a way of life, introducing the next generation to horsemanship, animal handling and the very activities that made the great country what it is today. We’re excited to recognize the hard work and commitment of the men and women behind California Rodeo Salinas with this year’s award.”

California Rodeo Salinas began in 1911. For over 100 years the event has showcased the unique agricultural community of the Salinas Valley — the produce capital of the world — with events like vegetable races. Local produce companies enter their mascot into the charity race to support Ag Against Hunger, a local nonprofit that provides fresh vegetables and fruits to food banks. In addition to organizations like the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, the rodeo committee partners with an astounding 48 community groups and nonprofits, including local programs for veterans, cancer patients, children and animals along with local schools, faith organizations, sports teams and other community groups. In 2023 they raised over $771,000 to support these local organizations.

The organization's July rodeo — affectionally known as “Big Week” by locals — is more than just an $11 million revenue boost for the local community; it’s a cornerstone of local Western culture. From kickoff concerts and parades for kids and horses to a golf tournament and themed days, the excitement is palpable throughout the community. Continuing the mission of enriching the community with vibrant cultural experiences, the rodeo added a new cultural event, Fiestas del Rodeo. This family-friendly celebration highlighted traditional Mexican games like Loteria, showcased Charro saddle and spur displays, featured live music, and culminated with a breathtaking performance by Escaramuza riders.

Beyond the rodeo, the committee actively works to keep the spirit of the West alive year-round by producing local events such as the annual Cowboy Gathering, a celebration of cowboy poetry and music, with the goal of preserving Western heritage and traditions in their community.

“The California Rodeo Salinas is not just preserving Western traditions but actively enriching our community, fostering connections and making a positive, lasting impact,” said California Rodeo Salinas President Steve Davis.

California Rodeo Salinas is the eighth organization recognized with the Sowing Good Deeds award. Each year, the contest is open to committees in the contiguous states and Washington, D.C., and the company receives nominations from all over the country. Applicants and nominees are evaluated on their commitment to community involvement, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to adapt to challenges and overcome adversity.

“Our 600-plus PRCA rodeos raise millions of dollars for their local charities across the country,” said Tom Glause, PRCA CEO. “Partnering with Massey Ferguson’s Sowing Good Deeds program allows us to recognize and reward committees for their charitable efforts. We couldn’t be prouder of California Rodeo Salinas and all our committees, volunteers and rodeo athletes who all contribute to make a difference for local communities and their citizens.”
