2014 was a big year for the California Rodeo
Salinas’ Hall of Fame. Along with five new inductees, the committee oversaw the
construction of a ‘Wall of Fame’ behind the California Rodeo Heritage Museum.
The wall will permanently house plaques honoring each of the members of the
Hall of Fame and was funded by a generous donation from the Joe Gheen Family. The
Hall of Fame was established in 2010 during the centennial year of the Rodeo. Members
have competed here, worked here, served on committees and so much more, leaving
their impression on this not-for-profit organization. Fundraising is still
ongoing for the plaques, but plans include having the class of 2010 plaques
installed before the 105th Rodeo starts July 16th.
The goal
of the Hall of Fame is to preserve the heritage, history and traditions of the
California Rodeo Salinas along with showcasing individuals, organizations and
livestock whose distinctive contributions to the California Rodeo Salinas have
helped keep the traditions of the West alive. The Rodeo is calling for members of the local community and rodeo
industry to nominate potential Hall of Fame members again this year by filling
out a nomination form and submitting it by February 27th.
