The California Rodeo Salinas has used a
custom vehicle as a promotional tool for decades; they have ranged from
convertibles with horns on the front to the brightly wrapped 2014 Chevrolet
Suburban you will see cruising down the road this year. The design stems from the
Rodeo’s ad campaign ‘Our Heroes have Always Been Cowboys’ which uses comic
book-like design elements to highlight heroic cowboys and was created by
designer Tracy Hopper of Hopperopolis in Carmel Valley. One side of the
suburban features 2014 California Rodeo Salinas bareback riding champion Steven
Peebles holding out his prized buckle and the other side features local team
roping cowboys Andy Holcomb and Justin Farr, the dynamic duo, in action. The
wrap was created and installed by Central Coast Sign and Design in Salinas. The
use of the Chevrolet Suburban from March through the end of the Rodeo in July is
donated by MY Cars in Salinas. Both Central Coast Sign and Design and MY Cars
are loyal sponsors of the California Rodeo Salinas.
Sweethearts and Queens have adorned the hoods
of these vehicles over the years and that tradition will continue as Miss
California Rodeo Salinas 2014, Jynel Gularte, travels with the vehicle to participate
in parades throughout the state in cities like Santa Maria, Livermore, Morgan
Hill and beyond. The first public appearance of Miss California Rodeo Salinas and
the new Rodeo vehicle was last Saturday at the Oakdale Rodeo Parade and this
Sunday the vehicle is heading up to the Red Bluff Round Up rodeo and parade. Locals
can see the vehicle in the Kiddie Kapers and Colmo del Rodeo Parades in Salinas
on Saturday July 11th.
